We opened with 'Autodidact' off the last record and there were all these girls down the front singing along to the chorus when it came, which was pretty amazing - rather than people only responding to the older songs like 'Rave Down' or 'Never Lose That Feeling' so that was great to see. A friend swervedrver mine played on the album and then the last time I saw Luke Sutherland we played with Mogwai up in Glasgow, maybe three years ago and he was there. We had a day off and we went into the studio and arranged to record there. Maybe a month, three weeks. K, but you could get bootlegged copies of the film from France.

Ricky Gervais, from The Office, used to book the bands there funny enough, back in the day. For me [recording software is] just a means to get stuff down.

But then, of course, Nevermind sort of kicked in again and before you knew it, a few weeks later it was at number one! Afterwards, people were coming up to us and saying it was like we'd never been away and the sound had advanced a bit. Initially, to a degree, because it was difficult not to have that kind of harder vocal.
